Dutch Oven I.D.?
« on: March 13, 2010, 08:03:51 PM »
Hi all,

I've wanted to start dutch oven cooking for some time, and I finally happened upon an older dutch oven at a local estate sale.  It's unmarked except for a  raised "12" on the lid and the bottom of the pot, and has vertical cow's horn ears.  The lid handle is a little unusual.  Can anyone take a guess at its maker or approximate age?

Martin, not sure on the age.

I have a KS&R marked lid that looks identical to this one, did Martin just use the same molds when they took over?

Anthony,
KS&R and MS&R were both owned by the Martin brothers, and from what I've been told and read in the Red Book, MS&R is thought to have made the hollow ware for both foundries. Eventually phasing out KS&R.
