Erie vs. "Erie"
« on: April 18, 2010, 06:28:48 PM »
Hey Gang,

Need your help (again)

I had a question about these two skillets (see picture)

One is a Griswold #8 Slant with "Erie" in quotation marks and the number 704B

The other is a Griswold #8 Slant with Erie not in quotation marks and the number 704E (the E is under the number).

What are the differences in the skillets, if any?  Year, Production, Style, Value, Demand, Etc?

Thanks in advance.

Tom

Tom are the logo's the same size? The letter under the # does not have any value.  :) so I answerd your question with a question. And that is norm. clark
What I know, I keep forgetting.

haha, thanks for asking a question to answer mine ;)

The logos do appear to be the same size (I actually were only given photos and do not own those pans).  But I have noticed that many pans marked Erie (without quotes) will have the number stamp on the handle, whereas the "Erie" pans do not have the handle stamp.

If anyone has any info I would appreciate it :)

With these slant TM ERIEs you will find many different variants. The pic you show is a good example. The small pic is a large TM while the other is a medium TM. The number eights differ the placement of the the letter at the p/n differs, the quotes, and probably the handles if you have full pic of that. I have them with quotes and without quotes, some have numbers on handle some do not.
No matter how marked or variation of skillet they are a quality skillet. The demand must be fairly high from watching them sell on eBay. Blue book has circa 1906- 1912.
So if looking to put a matching set of these together then you have much to look for.
These were made sizes #1 thru 14. Numbers 1,2, 13, 14, being high $$$ and HTF. The #1 will set you back around $4000..
That's all I can think of off the top of my head, hope some of the rambling helps.... Ed  :)

Thanks Ed!  That helped alot!

I want to collect of set of Erie and I have a #7 "Erie" (near mint condition, I got really lucky) and I have a #3 "Erie" and another #3 Erie both really nice condition as well.  I made the choice to go with all "Erie". For me, having some "Erie" and others Erie will bug me (yea, I am a little OCD).  You are right though, the quality of the number 3's are both really nice, idk why but I just like the "Erie" better.  I am not expecting to complete this set anytime soon, just a nice long term goal :)

Thanks again

LOL, if that's gonna bug ya ,you may end up in the nut house putting a matching set together.

You better check the underside of the handles to make sure they are the same and look to see if handle has number or not.

 Good Luck!   :) :D
