May 07, 2010 junking trip
« on: May 07, 2010, 10:13:46 AM »
Made a junking trip today...had to cut it off short because my grandson called and was sick at school. I picked up a couple more scalloped Lodge D/O's both black iron and a Blacklock #6 sad iron along with a #7 bean pot, and a nice old #7 gatemarked skillet, and maybe another bean pot. Pictures to follow when I get caught up a little bit. Sam is interested in the scalloped dutch ovens when I post them.

Here is the #9 hammered one notch Lodge skillet I picked up yesterday. First hammered one I have ever seen.

Here is the Blacklock sad iron I got today.

First scalloped Lodge D/O #8

Second scalloped Lodge D/O #8

Notice how the bail is turned on the first D/O, then notice how the bail is turned on the second one.
The first D/O is thinner and lighter than the second one, and the #8 on the second one is larger and bigger at the bottom. I believe the second one is older than the first one. And Sam you see the holes are in these also. I am believing more and more that spring assist on the first D/O I sold you might just be factory. It makes sense that Lodge put something in the hole, since it was there.

Check out this old bean pot, notice how off center the bottom was cast. It sits level and not lopsided. Wierd how they cast iron back then.

Oh and I also picked up a #8 trivet marked 188 near the center I think. Any ideas on this, my books are out in the cast iron building right now.

If I remember correctly the off centered bean pot was done on purpose. If it was set into the open eye of a wood stove, that pot could be rotated around to make more room for the other stove eyes if needed.

Nice haul.

Great lookin' stuff. I'd love to find some of that around here. Maybe out in the outlying areas... Eastern AZ has a lot of farms...That off center bean pot is pretty neat, and those scalloped DOs ROCK!

Keep your eyes open Rick. There is even an unmarked number 13 trivet.  :o If you find one of them, or really ANY of the 11's, 12's, or 13's, they are worth some bucks.  ;)

So, is the 188 a IM trivet or the Griswold D/O trivet?
