Not the prettiest pieces, but I'm hoping to change that.

This is my first Hot Plate. I'll be looking for some tips on how to restore this one. I've been checking out Sams write up on his restoration.

Columbian. Anyone know anything about this maker, and where I can find some wood, or porcelain knobs?

Thank you Will. I can't see any other markings on it. It's pretty gunked up. I'm soaking all the fasteners with penetrating oil. I don't want to break any of them when I take it apart. I need some info on rebuilding the controls also. The knobs are actually frozen up with corrosion. I was thinking of just dunking the whole thing in the electro, but wasn't sure what it would do to some of the parts.

Knobs haven't changed that much, so any good dearler should have some that will fit. If you put the whole assembly in the electro, I don't know what it would do the brass on the valves.

Thank you Sam. I'll be disassembling it before dunking it. I want to pull the valves apart to make sure they are in proper working order. I don't want any leaks.

Again, anymore tips on the hot plate would be great. Since it's my first, I don't want to mess it up.

Thanks to all for the compliments folks, and no problem with your "itch James. We have all done it.
2 sources for knobs? That's great. I was a little concerned about that. I have no idea what the original ones were, so I'm not sure whick ones would be correct, wood or porcelain.

I have a funny feeling that this thing is chromed, or nickeled. It's so gunked up, and I believe that it may have a coat of green paint on it, but I'm not even sure about that.

As for the connection to the burners, I haven't really taken a good look at that part of it just yet. It isn't the same as the Griswolds that I've seen. I will be working on it tonight, or tomorrow night, and will know better then. It's out in the shop right now, with rust penetrant on all the assembly points. I'll be disassembling all of it before it goes in the electro. I don't want to take any chances with the brass parts. If there are any brass parts. Again, I can't tell with all the gunk. I'll keep everyone posted on what I find, and try to get pics of all the steps of the process.

I am concerned about cleaning the inside of the burners. How can you tell if there is anything in there that should come out. I don't want any of the holes to get clogged. Also, rebuilding the valves. What is involved with that?

Thanks for any additional info.

After you run the burners through the electro and get them dry and clean on the outside just bang them against a 2X4 to knock off anything extra on the inside. If I was you I wouldn't worry about getting the holes clogged up for the max pressure you are going to have is less than 5psi. I forget exactly how much but I think it is 3psi. You might want to run a small wire in each hole of the burner just in case anything is built up.

Thank you Sam. I actually have a set of torch cleaning wires that will work great on those burner holes.

How do you regulate the PSI on one of these?

The regulator I bought for my stove is non-adjustable, same thing with the portable Propane heater I have for my workshop. Bought it at Lowes. I hope the stove valves you got are adjustable, there is some good reading in the PDF files for the Griswold Stoves and a lot of it will pertain to your stove too.

Chuck,

When I redid my Griswold 202,, after the electro I ran pressured water through it and made sure water shot out each hole.  Then I took my airhose and blasted it out to dry it.  It worked good for me.

Sam, I think you aske about how the valve was attached to the burner? They are threaded into the burner, and threaded into the tube. One was threaded in a little to well, and was cracked. It broke while removing it. If anyone has a valve, or knows where I can get 2 valves like them, let me know.

The venturi is simply a little swinging gate on the bottom of the burner where the valve threads in.

5  This one was missing. They are riveted on, so I need to fab a new one, and find a way to attach it. Anyone know anything about riveting these on?
