All I had
« on: May 22, 2010, 08:13:57 PM »
I found an auction that did not list any cast iron, but had this one picture. It's all I had to go by. Would you have gone?

If it was close, I would have liked to seen the deep skillet and the others around the back of the table.

Well, it was an hour and a half drive, and you were fooled too Roger. No deep skillet. I thought the same thing.

Jeff, I can't show you cause it's in the tank right now, but the ones I came home with were a 1st series ERIE #12, and #9, a Wapak Indian Logo #7, a "WAGNER"  SIDNEY #9, Unmarked Wagner with outer heat ring, a Vollrath #3, and that little griddle in the front of the picture. Also grabbed an Enterprise Sausage Stuffer that was in pieces, and missing the top part. I needed some parts for another one.

As for Price, I think Will Person has nothing on me when it comes to cheap. At least this time anyway.

On a side note, I also picked up an old Wire Rug Beater for Deb, and a couple dozen canning jars for Mom.

I guess no other CI people bothered to go. The most expensive piece was the Wapak at $15.   :)

Not the best pics, but I'm running on 11 hours sleep over the last 3 days. Here's my 4 favorites from the auction. The two 1st series ERIE's 9 +12, the Wagner Sidney 9, and the Wapak 7.

Con't mind the other pieces in the background. Those are just some others I've been working on.

They look nice Chuck.  The Wapak has the sloped handle on the underside and not the trough style that is most common. Have seen 8 and 9, this is the first 7 I  recall seeing with sloped handle.

Ed,
This is actually the first Wapak 7 Indian Head that I've owned. The logo is rough, and I know that's how these are graded. The inside is a little rough, but overall, would make a great user, or place saver. The only other one I own is the #9 Indian Head, and that one is plated. I've had that one for quit some time now. I'll have to dig it out from where ever it is, and check the underside of the handle, but to the best of my recollection, it was the trough style. I didn't know that there were actually different handle styles. Would these be dated earlier, later, or just that they were from a different pattern. I'm not up on Wapak, so any info would be great.

Chuck heres what I know of these skillets. The slope handle being on the left in all pix below.
The pix pretty much tell the story. You can see the slope handle compared to the trough, and the reinforcing ribs differ. The reinforcing pads are close, but they differ a little bit. You see the number on slope skillet is not recessed, however there are some that are, I have a nine that is recessed.
The trough skillet is smaller, 9-7/8" OD.. Over all length 14-3/4" including handle,  outside h/r.  Slope skillet is 10- 1/4" OD.. over all 15", inset h/r.
I believe the slope handle is later production, being that it is larger, and has inset h/r. I have no idea on circa..
Far as the the Indian logo being raised on the slope skillet and recessed on the trough, don't think this makes much difference since I see them vary on both styles. Why they are like this,I have no idea.
Thats all I can think of now, if something comes to mind I will post.
Perry, please proof read and edit at will, thanks...  :)

I see one difference in your slope handle, as compared to mine. I don't have it pictured, but the number style on the top of the slope handle that I have is like the number marking of the trough handle that you show. If that makes any sense. I'll have to get some better pics posted.
