First Magnalite Roaster

Will P.... this is alll your fault for making me want more aluminum! ;D
So this was a 2 fer one bid, one Wagner Magnalite, and one hammered Century SilverSeal.
Both pieces thru the SCO, still to be polished/buffed.

Cheryl, SilverSeal is the Guardian Service forerunner.  Stopped SilverSeal stopped in 1936 when they switched to Guardian Service.  I like the quality.  Those handles are riveted on.  Look inside and see how well they are done.  Buff the hammered parts with an SOS pad and it will sparkle.  0000 steel wool on the polished parts.  The lids interchange between Guardian and SilverSeal.

I really like the SilverSeal oval serving platter.  Use then during the holidays.  That lid you have fits right on it.

Thanks Tom! I knew it was connected to Guardian Service, just did not realize it was that old (Before Guardian)....! No wonder it was black. It looked like a Dalmatian!  Every little hammered indentation had burnt, black residue in it.  Gotta luv the SCO :) especially on hammered pieces.

I was going to say that SilverSeal looked like my Mommy-In-Laws Guardian Service. Now I know why.

Made me pay $32.00... ::)
But I got the #3 Gris LB Smooth and the #6 Gris LB Smooth on another 2 fer....$20.
That made me feel happier!
 
Winning the big fancy Dremel tool case and accessories made me jump for joy....
oh what the heck ... I'll be using it in some of my Restoration work, so here it is....

Wow nice aluminum pieces you have Cheryl. Last year I picked up the largest Guardian Oval Roaster and I paid $75 for it. Good job !!!

Nice!

I bought a roaster for $5 at Brimfield.  Has a small crack in the lid I noticed after cleaning.

I have a lot of Magnalite Professional anodized cookware.  Nice cookware.

I CAN'T LOOK!!! Shiny roasters make me itch to bring them home... MUST RESIST!!!!

Next thing you know, I'll be sitting in the garage on a pile of aluminum pots, smacking myself in the head with a Revere saucepan and gibbering, "Must get MAGNALITE. Must get MAGNALITE."

Seriously though, those are some sweet looking roasters! And that Dremel is such a useful tool - I've had mine for over 25 years now.  :D

Well Perry.... I can keep my eyes pealed for a nice set at Auction!

and then there is always Home Depot!  The set above is a few years old, but heck, small boxes of accessories alone were worth the price I paid. ($30).
The Dremel itself is a 400XPR (the flex shaft was missing), and the attachments in the case are an XPR Multi Saw, a Planer attachment, a FlexLite, and a Cutting Guide.

I went and got a Flex Shaft for this puppy already!

When I saw the picture of Cheryl’s Magnalite, I thought, “That looks just like the roaster Mom used to use for the Thanksgiving turkey”. Today seemed like a good time to look for it while visiting her, and lo and behold, I found not one, but three Magnalite roasters in the basement (they’ve been out of service for years, Mom’s using lighter weight roasters these days).

Then I found another Magnalite pot in the kitchen (still in service), plus some hammered piece I’ll have to get better pictures of. When I looked at the sauce pan of gravy simmering on the stove, I realized that all those heavy sauce pans that I so hated scrubbing after dinner as a kid were ALSO Magnalite! Funny, the stuff you grew up with and never really appreciated.
