Real or Fake Wagner #8 DO
« on: February 04, 2014, 10:14:36 PM »
It uses block lettering, says Wagner, Sidney, 0

I have another that uses cursive Wagner Ware 1268J....makes me think this one is a fake.

The Wagner Dutch Oven is not fake. And its one of them nice early old ones. Thats a nice piece.  ;)

The lid, what does it look like on the underside? That will tell the tale.  :-/

Your dutch oven is real, it's just earlier made. The earlier ones didn't have the 4-digit catalog no., just the size number.

If I am not mistaken, the lid is a Lodge skillet lid. If the underside has little points instead of a drip ring, that is what it is.

That is a pre 1924 dutch oven.  Nice.

That lid is an old,  probably about 1940's Lodge sillet lid.  Very nice too.

The lid does indeed have little pips on the bottom side.  The pre 1924 dutch oven comes with a lid that is smooth on the bottom with an 8 imprinted on the bottom and a screwed on handle.

Here is a full photo of that Lid, top and bottom.  It looks like it needs cleaning, but I am not certain I want to dip it in the electrolysis with the top looking so nice.

Any suggestions?

Top and bottom of lid  both need cleaning.

I'd never do half a piece, no reason to.  :)
