Unmarked #5 Skillet looks like BS&R but maybe not
« on: July 08, 2015, 07:11:54 PM »
I picked up this nice little unmarked Number 5 skillet, At first look I thought it was a BS&R but now I am not sure, Any ideas, Unmarked, No heat ring,Number 5 on top of handle, small number 5 on bottom which would normally be considered the 6 0:clock position but it is upside down, handle on bottom looks like BS&R with ridge going all the way to side of skillet but looks like it was ground flat, Nice smooth cooking surface and very large pour spouts.

Let the real experts look but I don't think it is a BSR. To many thing different no heat ring, number on handle.

Hi Mark, Thanks for the input, Just as an FYI, I have had several BS&R smooth bottom skillets without a heat ring but the number on the handle is a good point, every BS&R I have had did not have a number on the handle but I have learned from past experiences to "Never say never"
The upside down number 5 on the bottom is kinda curious also, most of the older BS&R's with the larger spouts have the 3/4" high number and the newer ones have the smaller number but none I have seen have the number upside down

Don't think it's BS&R either. Nice looking skillet, love the pour spouts.

Not sure who made it, from the top when I first picked it up I thought Wagner ware, Then when I turned it over I saw the handle and thought BS&R but after I cleaned it I thought...I don't know who made it but it's a nice skillet :D
And as a bonus I have a glass dome lid that fits it very nicely, there is a little opening where the pour spouts are because they are so big but otherwise the lid fits like it was made for it.

Unfortunately this is probably just another skillet made by a lesser known foundry and will never be identified, At any rate it is a nice little skillet and I already have more Number 5 skillets than I need now so I will end up selling it.
