WC Davis Waffle Iron
« on: July 07, 2017, 08:33:24 AM »
Hi all,

Yesterday I found a WC Davis waffle iron while I was out and found that it had a problem once I got home.  The bottom (i.e. non-logo piece) paddle has a small break on the hinge.  It' still very usable but isn't as pristine as I had thought when I first inspected it.

I like WIs but know that they require a lot of effort to clean so as you can guess this breakage took the wind out of my sails.  I'm asking for advice on this... since the paddle with the logo and the base are still in great shape would it make sense to sell those pieces to recover my cost or should I just get over and live with the issue?

Overall, it looks like a nice iron that will clean up and display nicely.

I would tend to keep it since it is an uncommon early old iron.  Not rare, but uncommon.

If it was me, it would really come down to how much I paid.  If I paid top dollar for a pristine iron, I would be looking for an adjustment or return if that is possible.

If I got it for a steal, I would not hesitate to keep it.

I don't know the market for this iron, but I would expect it to fetch a decent amount in good shape.

Tom

Andy, I agree with Tom.  I would likely keep it since it is an uncommon piece.

Hi Tom & Jim,

Thanks for the sound advice.

I didn't pay a ton for it ($52) and the shop has an "All sales are final" policy.  I think that I will hold on to it until the initial disappointment fades so that I can make a more rational decision.

Thanks!

I have some nice W.C. Davis pieces. I do not have that piece. IF I had that piece I would cry about it being broken and then I'd feel lucky to have it.  :-/

If you looked at it and handled it in person before purchasing it then what would justify asking for an adjustment, How does the seller know that the waffle iron was not damaged after the sale, not saying it was but if you are able to physically handle it and examine it before the sale then it is up to the buyer to make sure they look at it closely and know exactly what they are buying.

That's just my personal opinion
